La Romana is home to Altos de Chavón, a stunning re-creation of a medieval European village inspired by Roberto Copa and Charles Bluhdorn. Narrow cobble-stone alleyways lead you to the church of St. Stanislaus and from here you can see the sun setting over Rio Chavón. Sixteenth century rooftops shelter quaint shops and Mediterranean style restaurants along with the works of local artists and students from Altos de Chavón Design school. A visit isn’t complete without seeing the Roman-style amphitheater and the Regional Museum of Archaeology. You can also get your picture taken on a sombrero-wearing donkey.
